who is that player with a strawberry shirt, gueil?

  • mau

none of the files of the match are available at the moment. Boris or Derrick’s sabotage?

  • Voo de Mar

Thank you gueil for that legendary match :) Rostagno had unique color of eyes, interesting necklace, good game and… bad luck in that match! :)

  • gueil

mau, that player is Derrick Rostagno. Rafa copied his outfit at French Open this year. You have a lot to learn about tennis yet :P

Very bad luck, Voo de Mar :|

…. I didn’t know him gueil (ahaahah) … you know Edberg’s Church takes me a lot of time … anyway Boris’ kisses have been blown towards that net not to Brooke Shields …

Gueil, I’m improving fastly: I downloaded and watched the match for the first time .. and I’ve understood that with pink shirts you can arrive at match point as a maximum .
After Voo de Mar’s post I’ve got to hide this match because I must consider that Rostagno is too handsome and that my wife can fall in love him …

Seriously gueil, Voo de Mar, are you sure that Rostagno was unlucky? After many years he is well known, really, because of that net ….

One of these great matches from 1989 U.S. Open. Thank you gueil :) Do you have Sampras-Wilander from that tournament?

  • gueil

    Greg, I don’t have it.

mau, maybe you’re right. That net gave him a lot popularity and perhaps he would have been defeated in the next round anyway.

  • mau

I agree with you gueil. Is there a rule for the net tension in atp tour? Becker did a lob, almost, hitting the net, was it normal?

  • Voo de Mar

Why would have been defeated in the next round? He was a US Open quarterfinalist in 1988. I think he had good potential in his game. He had bad luck in the 4th set but also luck in the 2nd set because his volley at setpoint for Becker rather landed on out. Yes, he is well known thanks to that match but why wouldn’t have been if had won the match 6-1 7-6 3-6 7-6? ;)

  • Greg

Voo - Rostagno played one more memorable tournament. He beat Sampras and Connors during Wimbledon 1991.

  • Voo de Mar

I’d say more than one :) In Tokyo ‘91 he beat in back to back matches Becker (No. 2) and Lendl (No. 4)

  • gueil

Voo de Mar, beacuse of that I said ‘perhaps’. Ovbiously Rostagno was a talented player, he has some great results against tops but he wasn’t a regular player.

This was an epic macth; a five setter and that net at match point. People tend to remember this kind of macthes. If the match had finished in the 4th set, would it have been the same? I don’t think so :P

And it’s curious that only one person recommended me to upload a Rostagno’s match since I created the blog, and this match specifically :)

tennis is beautiful because everybody has his opinion…. For a McEnroe fan is more important Wimbly tie-break in 1980 final (a defeat at the end) or the victory one year later?

  • mau

.. and I don’t want to read in the mind of the person who recommended you that match gueil, but I can imagine that it has been chosen because that single net changed the history of the tournament. Boris won his only Us … and passed a round saving a match point in that way …
For me the message is: “the border between a defeat at the 2nd round or a victory maybe so thin”. Gueil at this point we need the version of your source!

  • Voo de Mar

It would be nice to watch another Becker’s epic against the other talented player - Omar Camporese at the Aussie Open 1991 :) 18 years the longest match in Melbourne :)

  • gueil

mau, the person who recommended me it says that he chose it because Rostagno looks very nice in that match, he mentioned something of his awesome eyes… I’m a bit worried about him…or about me :P

  • Voo de Mar

Have you got the matcht with Camporese, gueil? :D

  • casillacasilla

    bueno, me picó la curiosidad…
Bajo ahora el partido para ver el punto del que hablan.
    Saludos.

  • mau

I thought it was a tennis expert … instead …

  • gueil

Voo de Mar, I don’t have it.

  • Juan

Fue un exelente jugador con mucho talento, que les gano a todos y no quizo estar mejor rankeado.
